Self drive the Mereenie Loop
Adventurous self-drive visitors to the Northern Territory will want to travel on thee Mereenie Loop which links Alice Springs with Kings Canyon (with its relaxing resort) and Uluru . Although the road is mostly unsealed and a 4WD is recommended, it is not too challenging and provides a real Outback alternative to the sealed road between Alice and Uluru.
The journey begins in Alice Springs, Australia's most famous Outback town and home to several historic sites and Aboriginal art galleries. Visitors will want to take in the award-winning Desert Park -- and explore a cattle station on a quad bike safari.
The next day, the journey continues to the Mereenie Loop Road west from Alice – with its impressive variety of plants and animals, and tranquil waterholes in lush gorges along the way.
Next comes Kings Canyon, where visitors can tackle the famous Rim Walk and then relax in one of the deluxe spa rooms at the King Canyon Resort. Finally, head west to Uluru to witness Australia's most famous icon -- there’s a choice of several walking tracks and the chance to enjoy a glass of champagne watching the sun goes down to conclude the trip
