Kuranda train named in top ten train trips

The Kuranda Scenic Railway in Cairns has celebrated its first 120 years with a great accolade – it has been named as one of the best train trips in the world. This places it alongside the Ghan in Australia, while others rated included in the list the Indian Palace on Wheels, the Rovos Rail in South Africa, Canada’s Rocky Mountaineer, Asia’s Oriental Express, India’s Maharaja’s Express and Peru’s Andean Explorer.

The Ten Best Railway Trips in the World list was put together by Journeys of Distinction, a leading UK luxury escorted touring specialist and a member of the influential Kuoni Group.

The scenic railway journey winds its way through the spectacular World Heritage- listed tropical rainforest and Barron Gorge. The Kuranda Scenic Railway is one of Cairns' most popular attractions, and most visitors would not make the journey to visit

Considered an outstanding engineering feat, it showcases the pioneering spirit of early Australians and is a monument to the numerous men who lost their lives whilst constructing this historic railway.

Kuranda Scenic Railway travels 34 kilometers - at 328 meters above sea level - through some of the oldest and most pristine tropical rainforests in the world.

This spectacular railway journey can begin at either the Cairns Railway Station for those guests staying in Cairns or Freshwater Station, for guests staying in Palm Cove or Port Douglas
