Freefall thrills at Mission Beach
The new brand message of Tourism Tropical North Queensland, Adventurous by nature could not be more true of Mission Beach, located just under two hours south of Cairns. Mission Beach is a thrill seeker’s dream, and two of the top adventures are skydiving and sea kayaking.
Skydive Mission Beach has been inviting visitors to jump out of a plane since 1989 and is the original North Queensland Tandem Skydiving Company. You start with a spectacular scenic flight over pristine tropical rainforest with views over the famous Great Barrier Reef – and then it’s freefall from 14,000 feet at 200 kilometres an hour for a full 60 seconds in a super-charged adenenalin kick. Forget all those fairground rides, sky-diving at Mission Beach is the ultimate buzz.
If you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, or at least on water, Coral Sea Kayaking offers spectacular sea kayaking tours, expeditions, private charter and hire within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, visiting many of the National Park islands in the region, such as Dunk Island, Hinchinbrook Island and the Family Island group.
