Cook Islands -- gearing up for outrigger festival
The Cook Islands world-famous Vaka Eiva Outrigger Canoe Race takes place from November 18 to 25.
It was first held in 2004 and has grown to become one of the biggest events of its type in the South Pacific region and a feature on the international racing calender.
The Cook Islands are known for their stunning scenery and local hospitality -- and with a full programme of open ocean racing and sprints on beautiful Muri Lagoon, this is a race not to be missed. It's a special time to be in the Cook Islands.
Muri Lagoon is one of the major attractions on Rarotonga and offers great swimming, kayaking and windsurfing year round.
The organisers say they are expecting more than 800 paddlers from around the world to compete in this year's Vaka Eiva Outrigger Canoe Race.
