Heron Island competition beats flood gloom
As the UK media focussed its attention on the floods in Queensland, Delaware North Australia Parks and Resorts went ahead with a major prize competition for the local travel industry around Britain. In conjunction with Travel Trade Gazette, the competition was run on-line at the trade weekly’s TTGLive website, in print and in two Travel Bulletin e-mail blasts, each going to more than 30,000 travel industry staff around the UK.
The prize included five nights on Heron Island in a Beachfront Suite before transferring to Wilson Island for two nights to enjoy a unique island castaway experience in a Luxury Safari Tent. Also included were two return economy tickets from London to Brisbane with Korean Air (including flight taxes and fuel surcharges) and local flights to Gladstone, the jump-off point for Heron Island with Qantaslink
The competition was co-ordinated by The Conjoint Marketing Group. CEO Rhett Lego said that running the competition, which promoted travel to the Great Barrier Reef at a time when Queensland was under media spotlight because of the floods, gave the industry "a much needed good news item at a time of gloom."
