Papua New Guinea's colourful culture shows

Papua New Guinea is known for its colourful cultural shows where different tribes meet up and perform their different dances (or singsings).

One of the most famous is the Mt. Hagen Cultural Show, which in 2017 takes place on August 19 and 20 – a great time to visit Papua New Guinea. Trans Niugini Tours has been offering itineraries based around the Mt Hagen Show for almost three decades.

Another major event is the Goroka Cultural Show, which takes place every Septeùber.  The Eastern Highlands Cultural Show; which is simply known as the ‘Goroka Show’ is the most significant event in the province.

The Goroka Show is a probably the most well-known tribal gathering and cultural event in Papua New Guinea. Attracting more than 2,000 tribesmen and women, it  represents some  70 different tribes from all over the country, in a dazzling array of colour and energy.

Meanwhile, the  Alotau Kenu & Kundu Festival, which take place every November, is highlighted with its war canoes and beating of Kindu drums. Activities include canoe racing, traditional food exchanges including the popular Yam exchange, traditional sing-sings and dancing performances
