Hockey and sailing events head to Perth

Hockey Australia has come up with a new tournament with all new rules to make the game even faster. It takes place at  Perth Hockey Stadium from  October 20-23. The tournament is to be held in conjunction with the 2011 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Perth -- and is a great chance for hockey fans to see Australia’s Kookaburras and the Hockeyroos take on some of the world’s best teams.

And for sailing fans the big news is that ten World Championship titles will be decided at Perth 2011, which will held from December 3 – 18. The results will determine who represents Australia in the sailing events at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

On shore, the World’s Village in Esplanade Park will be the centre piece of a Worlds Festival being held as part of the Sailing World Championships.

As the event unfolds, viewers worldwide will be able to follow television and internet coverage of the year’s biggest international sailing regatta.

Spectators will be close to the action as competitors in the deciding medal races sail close inshore to Fremantle’s Bathers Bay. Vantage points along Challenger Harbour and South Mole will give grandstand views of the world’s best sailors pushing their boats to the limit.
