Cook Islands gets new air links

The first planeload of Air New Zealand passengers to fly directly from Sydney since last year’s trial period touched down at Rarotonga earlier this month

Air New Zealand says it is offering return Sydney-Rarotonga airfares for less than A$1000 between August 1 and December 16 on the non-stop flight – and they are expected to run at about 70 per cent capacity.

The new Aur New Zealand direct flight to the Cook Islands from Sydney, will make the destination more of an ideal South Pacific add-on for visitors to Australia. It is also expected to attract Europeans in Australia on working holiday visas.

Meanwhile; the Cook Islands government this month announced it had budgeted $6.2 million for tourism in the 2011-12 Budget Appropriation. This represents a $1.69 million increase on last years budgeted funding.
